2000 Baby Cardigan with Roses

I have a year 2000 white knit cardigan embroidered with roses that I could not find on the site. I didn't see a page for 2000 baby clothes. If anyone can help me to identify this line I would be much obliged. I have more photos if you need them. Thank you.

Here is the tag for the sweater.

Someone suggested that it looked like the Nutcracker line. There is a very similar white cardigan in that line and the rose motif appears on several garments. If so I think it would be in the Baby/Toddler version of Nutcracker rather than the one for older kids.

I am fairly certain that the 4 dot color pattern on that tag indicates that this is Layette, not Baby Girl or Kid Girl. Right now, I think everything we have for Nutcracker is under Kid Girl. 2000 is a year that we are definitely working hard to get more photos of and to sort out/id as best we can. I'm not an expert on that year by any means, but we do have people working on it. Thank you for these great photos! Clear photos like this always help.

Thank you, I am not clear on the difference between layette, and baby girl. I can always send more pictures of the cardigan to put on the site. Just let me know.

I actually believe this is Berry Pretty -- a 2001 layette girl line. I have about five pieces from this line, and recognized the details on each sleeve. Here is link to line: https://www.gymboree-lines.com/collections/81.

The difference between layette girl and baby girl is not too hard to grasp once you understand it. Layette sizes only go to size 24 months, usually starting at newborn or preemie or 0-3 months. Layette lines don't generally look like older girls' lines, although sometimes in the vintage years they did have a shared theme. Gymboree typically released three styles of layette: girls, boys, and gender neutral. Sometimes they were similar patterns, just different colors.

Baby girl lines almost always coordinate with the Kid girl lines, and also almost always had/have the same line name. Baby girl sizes start at 3-6 mo, followed by 6-12m, 12-18m and 18-24m or 12-24m, then (toddler) sizes of 2T, 3T, 4T, and 5T. Layette lines typically don't have accessories other than headbands, crib shoes, bibs, and blankets or animals.Baby girl lines usually have sandals or shoes, and hair clips, in addition to headbands.

Layette lines have tags that look different from baby girl and kid girl lines. Pastel tags are generally layette.

You're right about the flowers on the front of the cardigan look just like the ones on the pink jumper from Berry Pretty. Could an item from that line have a 2000 tag?

Yes -- Gymboree designs their fabric prints and sends them to the trademark office to get a copyright on them. They typically begin designing the clothes for the following year about nine months beforehand. So January 2001 items will have been designed and copyrighted in 2000. But by the time January 2001 rolls around, the design team is then working on fall designs. So the lines from late fall and December have the same copyright year as the year it is released (sold in stores). So, for example, if you pick up a summery item dated (c)2005, you would look for the line in the 2006 listings.

In the Berry Patch line listed here, you will spot one or two pictures that show the 4-dot pastel tag at the back of the neck, just like on your sweater. One of the actions on our to-do list is to place a photo of the neck (or size or fabric) tags on the Line page to help make it easier to double check. In the meantime, we also have started adding keywords like "2002" and "2001 tag" to help with searching.

As for the similarities in the Nutcracker and Berry Patch cardigans, this is a common feature of Gymboree designs. They tend to reuse the same clothing shapes, or print styles, or other design features from one line to the next, especially ones that are released within months of each other! (The flower shapes get recycled year after year, though!) So that is why you find the layouts pretty similar!
